great article! I keep giving my toxic, older sister chances. It is because at times she is really nice and then boom, she says the meanest things, even less important things are meant to be mean. I just can't stand it anymore and she knows how I feel, because I have told her years ago. Our mother died 18 years ago and she could've that sister(because she is so older)really pull us together, but no, not her. My oldest daughter who my toxic hardly sees, tells my D she looks, "worn out" and not because she is worried, but because she wants to have one up on my kids. Instead of her being supportive of her working so hard and obviously having fun in her young life...thats all she says? all of my kids and my other sisters kids say the same thing...she is mean and the good she does doesn't matter because when she is toxic, no one wants to remember the good she did! I am becoming very scarce to her, starting now!

Shannon, I'm sorry to hear about the situation with your sister. However, I'm glad you found something in this post of help. You are exactly right about others' frequent rush to judgment rather than understanding the intrinsic complexities of human relationships -- most of which are not entirely dependent on any ONE person. How much we could benefit from walking a mile in another person's shoes. Thanks for stopping by.

I have a toxic sister who my whole family has been forced to cut off. It was so nice to read a realistic article about this problem. Too often others judge what they do not understand and feel we should have just tried harder. This is still hard but much better than the constant pain she inflicted.
