I struggled so much with not being the perfect christian and I constantly asked myself why do some people have miraculous life changing experiences while i still had to overcome worldly issues, but when I understood that god really loved me and that he no longer saw my sin but only his holy spirit it totally transformed my walk I got the victory over sin that I was so desperately seeking.
praise the lord.
I heard a great talk by Andrew wommack titled the body soul and spirit I highly recommend this to your friend. hearing this was a pivotal point in my walk with the lord.
