One of my favorite things to do — when I get the chance — is white-water rafting. I don’t do it often enough, and consequently, I’m not all that good at it! But I absolutely love the rush of the water, the beauty of the scenery, and the feeling of adrenaline surging through my veins when the current really picks up.
I think life is a lot like white-water rafting. There are times when things go quite smoothly. At other times, we face rough waters, which present themselves in the form of difficult circumstances, critical choices, or tricky relationships. Fortunately, when I encounter those rough waters in my own life, I have a Savior who gives me strength and grace to endure to the end.
Having grown up in church all my life, I had a lot of head knowledge of the Bible. But when I was nine, following a message on the life of Jonah (yes, as in Jonah and the big fish), I was convicted of my own sinful nature. Like Jonah, I struggled to make sense of life — and truthfully speaking, I still do much of the time. I don’t always understand why some people seem to have more problems than others. . .why the storms of life often come with little or no warning at all. But one thing I do know is that I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ — a relationship that gives me new life each day.
And while I have definitely had my share of struggles, I am secure in my faith in Christ. I didn’t have to DO anything in order to receive eternal life; God made a way for me, a sinner, to have a relationship with Him through His son, Jesus. And all I had to do was accept that gift of salvation by faith.
My deepest desire for you, dear reader, is to have the abundant life on earth that God promises to those who know Him — as well as eternal life in Heaven with Him, once this life is over. If you have never placed your trust in Jesus Christ, I encourage you to do so today. Please click here for an explanation of what this Christian life is all about.
